Lecture Jorge Fernández Torres at the Leiden University
On Thursday 8 March, Jorge Fernández Torres (Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana and 11th and 12th Havana Biennial) will give a lecture at the Leiden University, titled The Havana Biennale—Going against the stream: In search of the lost audience.
In his talk, Jorge Fernández will reflect on the concepts and strategies that underlay the last Havana Biennial, Between the Idea and the Experience (2015). He will focus specifically on the ways in which the biennale created places of encounter outside of the official art institutions, and on how it proposed new understandings of territories and borders.
The lecture will be in Spanish. If necessary, translation will be provided.
Jorge Fernández’s visit to the Netherlands is organized by the Mondriaan Fund, in context of the visitors program, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Havana.
