The Mondriaan Fund annually organizes an orientation trip for visual artists and mediators, aimed at exchange and cooperation between visual art professionals. The goal of the trip is to extend international networks and contacts, and to stimulate the international dialogue.

The 2019 trip takes place from 21 October until 2 November, with the destinations United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah) and Pakistan (Karachi and Lahore). The program will consist of visits to museums, presentation institutions, galleries, artist-in-residence places, artists, collectors and local key figures in the various cities.

The trip is organized in cooperation with Frame Contemporary Art Finland, the Danish Arts Agency and Pro Helvetia as well as in close collaboration with the Dutch embassies in the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan. In total, 15 people will participate in the trip, including six participants from the Netherlands selected by the Mondriaan Fund: two artists and four mediators.

The following intermediaries and artists have been selected by the Mondriaan Fund for the 2019 orientation trip:

Katayoun Arian (freelance curator, researcher and writer), Pauline Burmann (independent researcher, curator and owner of the platform African Arts & Theory), Johan Gustavsson (co-director of 1646 and co-founder of The Naked), Kianoosh Motallebi (artist), Bart Rutten (artistic director Centraal Museum Utrecht), Marilyn Sonneveld (artist).
