Participation International Art Fairs

This commentary is meant for galleries and art fairs outside the Netherlands intending to apply within the grant program Participation International Art Fairs. Dutch galleries are referred to the commentary in Dutch.

For whom and for what?

Galleries and international art fairs can apply within the grant program Participation International Art Fairs to exhibit work by living Dutch artists at renowned international fairs. Applications are also accepted for the production of new work by artists based in the Netherlands in a separate section of an art fair. The grant is intended as a contribution towards booth rental or, where there is a special exhibition at the fair, as a contribution towards the production and presentation.

The aim of this grant program is to reinforce the international position of contemporary art from the Netherlands.

Booth rental for listed art fairs
The Mondriaan Fund has drawn up a list of art fairs with international allure on the advice of an expert committee. If a gallery has been accepted for one of these fairs and exhibits existing work in a booth, the application is honored automatically under the prevailing conditions.

These fairs are: Art Basel (Basel), Art Basel (Miami), Art Basel (Hong Kong), Liste (Basel), Frieze Art Fair (London) Frieze Art Fair (New York), ARCO (Madrid), LOOP (Barcelona), Art Berlin (previously abc, Berlin), ARTBO (Bogotá), The Independent (New York), The Independent (Brussels), The Armory Show (New York), FIAC (Paris), Paris Photo (Paris), Artissima (Turin), ZONA MACO (Mexico Stad), Art Cologne (Cologne), Art Brussels (Brussels). The list of art fairs is reviewed every two years to respond to the current situation.

Other applications
Applications for funding of booth rental at an art fair which is not on the list, and applications for presenting existing or new work in a separate section of the fair are submitted to an advisory committee.
