Greylight Projects (Heerlen) and Odapark (Venray) offer two artist-in-residence places for artists living in the Netherlands, to help them broaden their practice and expand their network. The residencies are part of Borderland Residencies, a Euregional network of art institutions. The residency period is concluded with an open studio weekend.

NB! it is not possible to apply for both locations. Please indicate in your motivation letter which of the 2 locations you choose.

For whom?

This residency programme is intended for multidisciplinary visual artists who see their work in relation to space, time and the environment; the residency also welcomes artists who are open to sharing their practice with other artists, makers and curators. The medium is not subject to restrictions, but the practice does need to be in line with the programme on offer. The Borderland Residencies programme is in English, and in Dutch and English at the Greylight Projects and Odapark locations.

Work period

Two work periods are available: one at Greylight Projects and one at Odapark, for a work period from 1 September 2024 to 30 November 2024.

The contribution

The Mondriaan Fund makes a monthly contribution of € 2,165 available to help cover travel expenses, material costs and accommodation costs. This sum is intended for one person. The selected resident is expected to pay a 10% personal contribution (the Mondriaan Fund automatically takes this into account in their ultimate subsidy, you do not need to do anything). In the case that a duo or collaboration is selected for the residency, the associated contribution will be raised to cover additional travel expenses, as well as a proportionate sum to contribute to the other applicant’s accommodation costs. Expenses associated with renting the studio/living space, supervision and presentation will be covered by the Mondriaan Fund.

Applications

The deadline for submitting an application for a work period is 21 September, 2023 before 16:00 PM (CEST) / 10:00 (AST). N.B. it is not possible to apply for both locations, please indicate your desired location in your motivation.

Before submitting an application, please see the Residency page for the terms and conditions, application procedure and assessment procedure. Please also read the terms and conditions applicable to Mondriaan Fund contributions. An advisory committee assists in the selection process, recommending candidates to Borderland Residencies based on the submitted documents. Greylight Projects and Odapark subsequently select the participants in their residency from this selection.

General terms and conditions

Selection

An advisory committee assists in the selection process, recommending candidates to Borderland Residencies based on the submitted documents. Borderland Residencies has ultimate responsibility for selecting the participants in the residency.

Other grants for residencies in the Netherlands and other countries

As only 1 or 2 residents can be selected for any given residency during each selection round, many applicants will be disappointed. For this reason, we point out that you can also apply for an Artist Project with a residency at a different location. That Artist Project residency location may not be one of those already offered in the Mondriaan Fund Residency application round.
