Havana Biennial, David Bade, Tirzo Martha, Nelson Gonzalez, Antonio José Guzmán
At May 22nd the 12th edition of the Havana Biennial will open its doors. The Mondrian Fund contributes to this event with a Grant International Presentations for new work made by visual artists David Bade and Tirzo Martha on behalf of Curaçao / Kingdom of the Netherlands and Antonio José Guzmán on behalf of Panama/the Netherlands. Visual artist Nelson Gonzalez received a projectgrant to realize new work which he will show on behalf of Aruba and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Wilfredo Lam Contemporary Art Center in Havana organizes this edition, under the title ‘Between the idea and the experience’. The biennial is open until June 22nd.
David Bade and Tirzo Martha will create a number of moving sculptures on the streets, from their direct observations and experiences with the environment and the residents of the neighborhoods. Mobile sales stalls that the two artists will have at their disposal will form the basis. By communicating directly with the people, inciting them to make creative contributions or supplying small or large materials (these could also be stories), the artists will build these carts up into something resembling road-pieces.
