Museum de Fundatie – aankoop ‘Gewitterfront’ van Neo Rauch

Neo Rauch, Gewitterfront, 2016 Neo Rauch, Gewitterfront, 2016

Museum de Fundatie bought the painting Gewitterfront (2016) by Neo Rauch. The German artist Neo Rauch (Leipzig, 1960) is an exponent of the Neue Leipziger Schule. With his collagenous compositions he comments in a very personal manner on the complexity of life in the 20th and 21st-century. With Gewitterfront Rauch seems to reveal his connection with (East) Germany: his birthplace and an immense inspiration and mirrors it with his doubts about the European identity.

The work of Rauch is part of important international collections of modern art, including the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart in Berlin, Pinakothek der Moderne in München, Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 2002 he won the prestigious Vincent van Gogh Biennal Award for Contemporary in Europe. Gewitterfront obtained by De Fundatie is the second oil painting in a public art collection in the Netherlands and the only example of the current development of the artist. In the last years the museum focused especially on German art and Gewitterfront fits well with the collected international masterpieces.

Museum de Fundatie received for their purchase of Gewitterfront a Support for Individual Acquisitions in Heritage Institutes from the Mondriaan Fund.
