Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond – Jan Rosseel

From December 10th until January 29th 2017 the first solo-exhibition of Jan Rosseel, Back Up, is shown in Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond. This exhibition presents new commissioned work Rosseel made as part of this artistic research project An Anatomy Of Oblivion. The results of this research, that will take one and a half year, will be shown during three successive exhibitions, each with a different focus. In the Brakke Grond the focus is ‘media’, in Museum Dr. Guislain in Gent ‘psyche’ and in Stroom Den Haag ‘politics’.

Rosseel researches with photography and installations the functioning of his own and the collective memory through different historical events. Rosseel uses this (un)trustworthiness to ask questions concerning the differences and similarities between the journalistic and artistic truths.

De Brakke Grond received a Grant Commissioning Contemporary Art from the Mondriaan Fund for commissioning Jan Rosseel to create new work for Back Up.
