8-11 February – Curator’s Program Mondriaan Fund in collaboration with Art Rotterdam
In collaboration with Art Rotterdam the Mondriaan Fund has invited a group of curators from different countries to participate in this year’s curators program during the Art Rotterdam art fair between 8 and 10 February 2018. The visit includes a VIP viewing of Art Rotterdam, special visits and guided tours to important cultural institutions and contemporary art centres in Rotterdam and Amsterdam as well as a number of social and professional networking events, specially hosted parties and dinners. The exhibition Prospects & Concepts, organized by the Mondriaan Fund in the old distribution center of the Van Nellefabriek, is part of the art fair. The exhibition presents work by almost 80 visual artists who received a Stipendium for Emerging Artists in 2016 in order to start their careers.
For this edition, the Mondriaan Fund invited Stijn Huijts again to curate the exhibition. Huijts is the artistic director of the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht.
Director, Hartware Medien Kunst Verein (HMKV)
After having lived in Paris (1982-1986) she studied Russian literature, Eastern European studies, political science, and art history in Berlin and Amsterdam (1988–1996) and in 2004 obtained her PhD from the Humboldt University in Berlin with a thesis focusing on a paradigmatic shift in the way artists reflected the historical avant-garde and the notion of utopia in visual and media art projects of the 1980s and 1990s in (ex-)Yugoslavia and Russia. She has worked internationally as an independent curator and theorist specializing in media art, net cultures, and Eastern Europe since 1993. Since 2005 she is the (artistic) director of HMKV. She curated exhibitions a.o. at the Bauhaus (Dessau), n.b.k. Associate Curator of Artists’Film and Moving Image, ICA London
Steven Cairns is Curator of Artists’ Film and Moving Image at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2011—ongoing). He curated the ICA Artists’ Film Biennial 2016 and 2014 (London); and the Tramway artists’ moving image Festival 2014 (Glasgow). In 2013, he was Executive Producer on a series of artists’ moving image works for Channel 4’s Random Acts. He was also a jury member of the Jarman Award 2014.
In 2015, he was the selector of Film Open (Spike Island, Bristol; S1, Sheffield, Transmission Gallery, Glasgow; Castlefield Gallery, Manchester). Recent projects also took place at Kunstverein Munich, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; the exhibition Squeezing Sorrow from an Ashtray, Bergen Kunsthall (all with James Richards 2015) and the sci-fi project Enter/Exit and NO WAY OUT at Kunsthalle Bern, 2015. In 2016, he was co-curator of the Liverpool Biennial, and convened the conference Archaeology & Exorcisms, which took place in Gothenburg, Sweden. In 2017 he published a volume of collected interviews titled Archaeology & Exorcisms: Moving Image and the Archive and co-curated the solo exhibition Hildegarde Duane: Western Woman at Kuenstlerhaus Stuttgart.

Irene Campolmi is a Copenhagen-based curator, currently working on exhibitions that explore notions such as ecology, ethics, postcolonialism, queerism and feminism. She is working on upcoming institutional shows for 2018/ 2019, including “Re-Routing Nature” at SixtyEight Art Institute (Copenhagen) and “#whatif” at Kunsthal Charlottenborg (Copenhagen), among others. She has curated the artistic program “Art Reacts” of the Code Art Fair in Copenhagen in 2017. Irene is also completing her PhD on contemporary curatorial practice at the University of Aarhus with a thesis that explores the entanglement between ethics and research in curating. She has co-organised and coordinated the international symposium “Between the DISCURSIVE and the IMMERSIVE” at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark). Irene has worked as a researcher for the Max Planck Institute- Kunsthistorisches Institute in Florence, and as an assistant curator for the Italian Embassy in Copenhagen and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. She has extensive collaborations with Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin and Frie Universitet (Germany).
Curator and Videographer
Charles Carcopino was the director of Le Studio at the Maison des Arts et de la Culture de Créteil and the artistic director of Exit festival from 2007 to 2015. He curated exhibitions for EXIT festival (Paris), VIA festival (Maubeuge, Mons) and the gare St Sauveur of Lille. Theses exhibitions have toured in others festivals and museum such as : in South Korea Daegu Art Museum, Nuri Art Center Goyang, in China OCT gallery Shanghai, OCT Arts and design Gallery Shenzhen, or in France : LIFE St Nazaire, Theatre National de Toulouse, monaco Dance Forum. In 2011 he co-curated with Claire Staebler “The Sound Factory”, Experience Pommery#9 in Reims. As a freelance curator he works for Paris la Villette, festival 100%, Lille 3000 and for the 500th anniversary of the city of le Havre in 2017.

Chaika Eugenia Pavlovna has a higher education in the field of philosophy, knowledge of 5 foreign languages, additional education in the field of cultural journalism, work experience in the field of culture – 11 years, the implementation of the program of Art Residences 2nd (2012, nominated for the Innovation Award as a regional project) and the 3rd (2015) Ural Industrial Biennale, curating the Final Exhibition of the Art Residency Program 3rd (2015) and the 4th Ural Industrial Biennale, curating and artistic writing at the independent photo project “Tales” (2016-2018), previously: coordination work on exhibition and residential projects in the field of contemporary art, the organization and holding of film festivals. Current activity – curator of the Artist-in-Residence program of the Ural Industrial Biennale (uralbiennale.ru), artistic director of the Ural branch of NCCA-ROSIZO.
Curator Vejle Art Museum
Art is a tool to constant rediscovery of the world. It presents us with hopes and dreams, fears and nightmares. In other words: Art ecchoes society. My interest in art is powered by an insatiable curiosity and a constant need to ask questions. Questions about the world; me, us and them. Working as a curator, I always try to ask new questions. Aiming to create – not reproduce – knowledge. And always keeping in mind that art is a playground. Dead serious and extremely important, but still a playground.
I graduated from University of Copenhagen in 2008 with a BA in Art History and a MA in Visual Culture. While still a student, I opened the gallery Beaver Projects. In 2012 I ventured into the museum world. 2012-2014 I worked as head of events, curatorial assistant and educator at Nikolaj Kunsthal (Copenhagen). Since 2014 I have been working at Vejle Kunstmuseum.
I’m currently working on a handful of different projects regarding art and public space, an event based collection exhibition, and a research exhibition with Navigation as working title.
Director of MAAT, the new Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, Lisbon
Pedro Gadanho is a curator, a writer and an architect. Previously he was a curator of contemporary architecture at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, where he was responsible for the Young Architects Program, and curated exhibitions such as 9+1 Ways of Being Political, Uneven Growth, Endless House and A Japanese Constellation. Gadanho holds an MA in art and architecture and PhD in architecture and mass media. He was the editor of BEYOND bookazine and the ShrapnelContemporary blog, contributes regularly to international publications, and is the author of Arquitetura em Público, a recipient of the FAD Prize for Thought and Criticism In 2012.
Curator at La Loge, Brussels
Laura Herman (b.1988, Brussels) is a curator and writer whose work focuses on spatial infrastructure, organisational models, and affective architectures. She currently serves as a curator of public programmes at La Loge, a Brussels-based space dedicated to contemporary art, architecture, and theory, and she is editor at De Witte Raaf. In 2016, Laura graduated from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in New York, and she holds a master’s degree in Comparative Modern Literature (Ghent University, 2010). Her reviews and essays have appeared in Frieze, Mousse, Spike Art Quarterly, Metropolis M, Bomb, De Witte Raaf, and elsewhere, and she has (co-)curated exhibitions and events including ‘Wild Horses & Trojan Dreams‘ at Marres (Maastricht, 2013), ‘Definition Series: Infrastructure’ at the Storefront for Art and Architecture (New York, 2016), ‘Third Nature’ at the Hessel Museum (New York, 2016), and ‘Natural Capital (Modal Alam)’ in the framework of the Europalia Curator’s Award at BOZAR, (Brussels, 2017). She is currently developing ‘The Family Trap’, an exhibition that will open at Extra City Kunsthal in 2019.
Exhibitions coordinator FACT (Foundation for Art & Creative Technology), Liverpool
Charlotte Horn is a Liverpool-based curator and producer, and currently works as Exhibitions Coordinator at FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), supporting the development and delivery of a diverse programme of exhibitions, residencies, and public programming. From 2014-2016 she was a Director of artist-led gallery and studios The Royal Standard, focusing on the organisational development, fundraising, artistic programme, and successful relocation of the space to a permanent home.
Elise Lammer (cancelled))
Associate Curator SALTS, Birsfelden Switzerland and the host and founder of Kunsthalle Roveredo, an artists residency programme and exhibition space located in Graubünden, Switzerland.
Elise Lammer (born in Macau (CN), lives and works in Basel and Rome) was trained as a fine artist in Barcelona and holds an MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths College, London.
Between 2014 and 2016 she was responsible for the exhibitions at APRA, the Adrian Piper Research Archive in Berlin, working toward Piper’s upcoming retrospective at the MoMA, New York. In 2017-18 she’s a research fellow at the Istituto Svizzero, the Swiss Institute in Rome.

Curator, art historian and writer based in Copenhagen, Denmark
She holds a Mag. Art Research Degree in Art History from Aarhus University (2008), and a BA in Art History from AU (2005). From 2014-2017 she was head curator of Röda Sten Konsthall, Göteborg, Sweden where she organized numerous solo- and group exhibitions focusing particularly on topics such as politics of democracy and the role of the artists in the age of the Anthropocene. Solo-exhibitions include Julian Rosefeldt: Asylum (2017) Hanne Nielsen and Birgit Johnsen: Protect/Release (2017), Pinar Yoldas: The Warm, the Cool and the Cat (2016), IC-98: Tides of Time (2016), Carlos Motta: For Democracy There Must be Love (2015), Ylva Ogland: Diverse Variations of Other Spaces (2014). Recent group exhibitions include: WE ARE THE REMIX (2017) – an international video exhibition exploring the shaping of cultural identity through the interplays between sound, music and image, and including works by Jeremy Deller, Nástio Mosquito, Rachel Maclean, Carsten Höller and Korakrit Arunondandchai and Surfacing Earth (2016) – addressing the changing landscapes of the Anthropocene including artist Rosa Barba, Ursula Biemann and Paulo Tavares, Tiril Hasselknippe, Marie Kølbæk Iversen and Yasuaki Onishi.
From 2014-2015 she was the artistic director of the 8th edition of GIBCA-Göteborg International Biennial of Contemporary Art, titled A story within a story and curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose. From 2016-2017 Aukje was the Artistic Director of Cph Art Week – a 10 days festival of contemporary art taking place in the larger Copenhagen region.
As an independent curator Aukje has organized international exhibition projects, performance programs and lectures. Latest a solo-exhibition with artist Jesper Dyrehauge (DK) at Anita Schwartz Gallery in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2016) and the performance Reading Blue by artist Tove Storch (DK) at MAM-Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2015). She is currently working on a major monographic exhibition by Danish artist Kirstine Roepstorff for Kunsthall Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (June 2018).
Lars Willumeit (born 1974) is a German social anthropologist based in Zurich, Switzerland. As an independent curator, author/critic, art educator and photo editor, he has been working with the medium of photography in different modes since 1993. His interests lie in photography, documentarisms, regimes of representation, and visual cultures.
In addition to having been trained as a photographer, Willumeit has, since the early 2000s, served in the capacity of photo editor for numerous magazines, most notably for GEO magazine in Hamburg and New York, and as photo director, from 2008–2013, for the Zurich-based Du: Die Zeitschrift der Kultur.
Between 2013 and 2015, he curated exhibitions and festival presentations for East Wing (an exhibition space and platform for photography based in Dubai) and the FORMAT International Photography Festival in Derby; and was a contributing author to the photobook Deposit by Yann Mingard, as well as to a dictionary entitled Factory Tools, which was published within Fabrik, the catalogue of the German Pavilion (curated by Florian Ebner) at the 2015 Venice Biennale.
In 2016 he was the chief curator of Krakow Photomonth.
