Consultation hours for Awareness of the History of Slavery on March 3

Are you an artist or curator seeking the opportunity to realise an artistic plan that contributes to raising awareness of the history of slavery? Or is your cultural institution looking to engage an artist, curator or heritage professional through an appointment or a commission for research, a project or a programme that strengthens this awareness? If so, you may be eligible for support through the Awareness of the History of Slavery grant.

The Awareness of the History of Slavery grant comprises two trajectories:

For individual artists and curators:

Visual artists may apply to realise an artistic plan that contributes to raising awareness of the history of slavery. Curators and observers may conduct preliminary research and develop and articulate perspectives and narratives that contribute to knowledge and awareness of the history of slavery. The grant is intended for the execution of a specific plan within a clearly defined working period.
The grant amount is determined per application.

For cultural institutions:

Cultural institutions can apply for a contribution for the appointment of, an assignment for, a visual artist, curator or heritage professional who will conduct research (such as artistic research, collection research or preliminary research for an exhibition), develop and present an artistic project, or develop programmes that contribute to raising awareness of the history of slavery.
The Mondriaan Fund contributes € 50,000 per position.

In 2026, the deadline is 16 July 2026, before 16:00 (Dutch time zone) / 10:00 (Caribbean time zone).

Consultation hours for Awareness of the History of Slavery

On 3 March from 16.00 to 17.00 (Netherlands time zone) / 11.00 to 12.00 (Caribbean time zone), there will be an online consultation hour for the Awareness of the History of Slavery grant. During this session, we will provide more information about the grant, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
