Harry Tupan and Coen Reinders appointed to Mondriaan Fund Supervisory Board

As of 1 October 2025, Harry Tupan and Coen Reinders have been appointed to the Supervisory Board of the Mondriaan Fund, the public funding body for the visual arts and cultural heritage.

‘Harry Tupan’s extensive museum experience in the field of cultural heritage and Coen Reinders’ financial expertise are valuable additions to both the Supervisory Board and the Mondriaan Fund. We look forward to an inspiring collaboration’, says Geneviève Lieuw, Chair of the Supervisory Board.

Until his retirement in September 2025, Harry Tupan (1958) was Director of the Drents Museum in Assen. He held various positions at the museum during his career, ranging from Head of Commercial Affairs to Curator of Contemporary Art, and Director. Tupan was responsible for bringing several major international exhibitions to Assen, such as The Terracotta Army of Xi’an (2008) and Dead Sea Scrolls (2013). He played an important role in the development and growth of the Drents Museum. Among the acquisitions during his directorship was Landscape with a Farm, one of the few watercolours in Vincent van Gogh’s oeuvre. Tupan also holds various board and advisory positions, including as a member of the Supervisory Board of the Resistance Museum in Amsterdam and RTV Drenthe, and as a committee member of the Cultural Fund.

Coen Reinders (1964) is Manager of Partners and Operations at the National Restoration Fund, a financial institution that supports monument owners with restoration and sustainability projects. With more than 30 years of experience in the Netherlands and abroad, Reinders has worked in capital-intensive sectors such as natural resources, airports and banking. Throughout his career, Reinders has been responsible for finance, IT, strategy and – in recent years – sustainability. He also serves on the Supervisory Board of Energiefonds Overijssel, is Chair of the Faculty of Business & Management at the NBA (Dutch Association of Accountants) and is a Board Member of Stichting Zonnegloren, a charitable foundation.

About the Supervisory Board

The Mondriaan Fund’s governance model comprises an Executive Board and a Supervisory Board. Together, the members of the Supervisory Board bring extensive expertise in the (international) field of visual art and cultural heritage, cultural entrepreneurship, finance, legal affairs and corporate governance.

The Supervisory Board consists of 7 members. Alongside Tupan and Reinders, these are Chair Geneviève Lieuw (supervisory board member and independent consultant for international organisations), Karin Kersten (executive education, London Business School), Hester Alberdingk Thijm (Director of the AkzoNobel Art Foundation), Noraly Beyer (journalist and programme maker) and Rune Peitersen (artist and lecturer at the St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda).

In 2024, Marga Weimans and Willem Bijleveld stepped down from the Mondriaan Fund Supervisory Board, in March and December respectively. The Fund thanks them for their valuable contribution and commitment, both to the Board and to the Fund as a whole.

The Supervisory Board’s competences, responsibilities, working method and composition are outlined in the regulations (Dutch only) on the Mondriaan Fund website.
