From Thursday, 29 October 2026, artists, curators and other professionals in the visual arts sector can submit proposals for the Dutch entry to the Biennale Arte 2028. On behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), the Mondriaan Fund is organising the Netherlands’ participation in the Biennale Arte. Through the presentation in the Dutch Pavilion, the Mondriaan Fund brings relevant contemporary visual art from the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom to the attention of an international audience, contributing to its international recognition and standing.
For the first time since 2018, the Mondriaan Fund is once again inviting proposals.
“I know there is a wealth of excellent ideas within the field about what the Dutch Pavilion could be. I look forward to receiving those plans and therefore invite teams to submit a proposal that is topical and engages with the questions, challenges and opportunities facing us as a visual arts sector and society. The proposed presentation must not only be relevant within a national context but also resonate with an international audience. The Dutch presentation at the Biennale Arte 2028 should be an exceptional, widely supported entry.”
– Michael Huijser, Director of the Mondriaan Fund and Commissioner
The Mondriaan Fund invites teams of curators and artists to submit proposals for the Dutch Pavilion in 2028, from Thursday 29 October until Tuesday 1 December 2026. Teams must consist of at least one curator and one artist, both of whom must be actively engaged in artistic practice and firmly embedded in the professional contemporary visual arts sector in the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
