Lorenzo Balbi

When he took on the role of Head of the Modern and Contemporary Art Area of the Bologna Museums Institution. After studying Conservation of Cultural Heritage at the Ca ’Foscari University in Venice, he specialized in Contemporary Art at the University of Turin. From 2006 to 2017, at the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Turin, he taught Methodology of Curating at Campo course for curators, he worked on exhibition projects and was curator and manager of the Residence for Young Foreign Curators (2015-2017).

Since 2018 he has taken on the artistic direction of ART CITY Bologna, the programme of events promoted on the occasion of Arte Fiera; he is a member of the board of directors of AMACI and of the coordination of the Forum of Italian Contemporary Art.

Among his recently curated exhibitions: That’s IT! On the latest generation of artists in Italy and one meter eighty from the border (22 June 2018 – 6 January 2019); Mika Rottenberg (January 31 – May 19, 2019); Julian Charrière. All we Ever Wanted Was Everything and Everywhere (9 June – 8 September 2019); Cesare Pietroiusti. Un cero numero di cose / A Certain Number of Things (4 October 2019 – 6 January 2020); AGAINandAGAINandAGAINand with works by Ed Atkins, Luca Francesconi, Apostolos Georgiou, Ragnar Kjartansson, Susan Philipsz, Cally Spooner, Apichatpong Weerasethakul (23 January – 3 May 2020). He is carrying out, until 31 December 2020, Nuovo Forno del Pane, the project to rethink the identity of MAMbo as a production center. Since 2020 he has been collaborating with the University of Bologna as part of the Master AMaC – Arts, Museology and Curatorship.
