Luca Avanzini

Job title: Curator at the Centre culturel Jean-Cocteau (Les Lilas) Country: the Netherlands Visiting period: 23 - 27 March Visiting year: 2026 Part of Mondriaan Fund x Trampoline curatorial exchange program 2026

With a background in contemporary art history and cultural mediation, Luca Avanzini (born 1989 in Como, lives and works in Paris) develops a curatorial practice grounded in the social dimensions of artistic creation and in the ways artworks, artists, and cultural workers can act collectively within a territory, in dialogue with its inhabitants.

In 2013, he co-founded Sikozel, a collective of filmmakers, anthropologists, and historians that has followed the work of Ernest Pignon-Ernest on several occasions and documented experiences of social and cultural resistance in the northern suburbs of Naples and in Havana. In 2016, he took part in Turin in the creation of the Piero Simondo Archive, dedicated to the co-founder of the Experimental Laboratory of the International Movement for an Imaginist Bauhaus, and later of the Situationist International. Since 2018, as curator at the Centre culturel Jean-Cocteau (Les Lilas), he has placed collective practices of creation, curation, and mediation at the heart of projects developed together with artists, local residents, and the centre’s team.
