Sarah de Vos

Function: Artist Country: Belgium Visiting period: 21 - 22 October Visiting year: 2021 Part of Follow-up peer-to-peer online meetings

Triggered by ‘culture’ and ‘nature’, Sarah De Vos (b. 1985, Brussels) creates images that possess a seductive beauty, and at the same time evoke critical reflections on our relationship with images. She paints with oil paint on wooden panels or on canvas, sometimes ending the paint layer with a transparent layer of epoxy. In this way mirrors are created as it were, in which our own reflection inevitably plays a role in the perception of the intangible image here and now.

De Vos works in series. They set an atmosphere like a music album can. The paintings are like the songs of a concept album. They stand alone but ask questions, communicate with each other with the space and with the viewer.

Sarah De Vos lives and works in Leuven. She studied painting at Sint-Lucas in Antwerp and followed a postgraduate degree at De Ateliers in Amsterdam. Her work was part of the Biennale of Painting 2020 and this year she will publish her first monograph.
