As a young boy Sunil Puljhun (July 23, 1978, Paramaribo) starts by drawing trees. Soon he moves on to a new subject: cartoons and cartoon heroes. When he is seven, he starts making posters which he sells in the neighborhood in order to earn money for school. At twelve years old he creates his own cartoon characters. Encouraged by art teacher Djiman and several family members he starts lessons at the Nola Hatterman Art Academy (NHAA) in 1996, from which he graduates in 2000. This is also where he currently works as an art teacher.

He participates in various exhibitions and is a partner-artist of Readytex Art Gallery, where his work is on display daily. In 2009 Sunil Puljhun participates in the group exhibition Multiculturalism in Villa Nuts in The Hague, the Netherlands, together with a few Surinamese colleagues. In this same period he also spends a number of weeks as guest lecturer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (GRA). In 2014 he is an artist in residence at Glo’Art in Lanaken, Belgium.

His theme usually revolves around the universal problems of the youth and several other harsh realities brought on by mankind, and his art is usually dark. In his work, often on paper, collage techniques and the art of painting are combined. Lately he also incorporates digital techniques in his work.
