Previous to the Frac Ile-de-France, he was the Director of Centre d’Art Contemporain de Brétigny between 1991 and 2002, where he curated numerous solo shows, bringing out now world-wide renowned artists (Michel Blazy, Maurizio Cattelan, Richard Fauguet, Carsten Höller, Franck Scurti…). He also developed an important publishing policy along these exhibitions.

From 2002 to 2006, Xavier Franceschi was part of La Délégation aux Arts Plastiques, Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication, in charge of public art commissions. As the head of the Frac Île-de-France since 2006, he has led a multisite project encompassing the curating of exhibitions and events at Le Plateau and Le Château de Rentilly, as well as the development and dissemination of a collection of more than 1600 works of contemporary art pieces at a local, national and international level. Solo shows at Le Plateau have been dedicated to the works of several now major artists such as Ulla Von Brandenburg, Charles Avery, Keren Cytter, Joao Gusmao/Pedro Paiva, Alejandro Cesarco, Haris Epaminonda, Aurélien Froment, Mark Geffriaud, or currently Elad Lassry for his first solo show in a French institution.
