The U-jazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art is located in a castle in the heart of Warsaw, surrounded by a park. Besides offering an artist residency program, the center also hosts exhibitions, runs a cinema, a library, and a bookshop.
U-jazdowski uses its long-standing experience to implement programs responding to ever-changing relations between creators, organizations and the social environment. In the frame of these programs, the participating artists and curators can research and experiment in selected fields. Art residencies at U-jazdowski offer several-month interdisciplinary stays, combining art and research within a theme determined individually by each invited artist and curator.
U-jazdowski particularly encourages artists working in the fields and at the interface of art, ecology, education and performance; those involved in urban green spaces research; those interested in soils, horticulture, as well as themes of accessibility and motherhood and practices of maintenance and care.
U-jazdowski’s focus lies on two thematic strands: Common Field and Swamp Anxiety (visit the links to learn more about the program).
For whom
Visual artists, curators and art observers can apply for a residency at U Jazdowski. For duos and collaborating partners, each person must submit a separate application. U Jazdowski is family friendly and very suitable for an artist with young children.
A duo is understood to be 2 artists, curators or observers who consistently produce work together as a single unit. Collaborative partnerships producing work on a more short-term or long-term basis can be considered as duos, as long as they both submit a joint plan that leads to a single result. During the residency, duos or collaborative partners live and work together in the same space.
Work period
There are 1 work period available:
- 16 march – 14 June 2026
How much?
The Mondriaan Fund makes a subsidy of € 7.133 available for an artist and of € 5.297 for a curator or art observer to help cover travel expenses, material costs and living costs. This sum is intended for 1 person. In addition, the selected resident is expected to pay a 10% personal contribution. The Mondriaan Fund automatically takes this into account in their ultimate subsidy, you do not need to do anything.
The costs of renting the studio and living space are paid directly to U-jazdowski by the Mondriaan Fund.
If a duo or collaborative partnership is selected for the residency, the total amount increases proportionally to cover the additional travel and living costs for the second applicant.
The contribution to artists based in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom can be increased to meet any higher travel costs. This is looked at per situation.
Application
The deadline for submitting an application for a work period in 2026 is Thursday 11 September 2025 before 16.00 (Dutch time zone) / 11.00 (Caribbean time zone).
Before submitting an application, please see the Residency page for the terms and conditions, application procedure and assessment procedure.
Please also read the terms and conditions applicable to Mondriaan Fund contributions.
Selection
The selection is made by an advisory committee. Based on the submitted documents, the advisory committee proposes candidates to the U-Jazdowski. They make the final decision on the participants for the residency. An interview may be part of their selection process.*
When you apply for two different residencies within the same call then the quality and development of your oeuvre/(professional) practice and the quality of your cultural entrepreneurship as the artist, curator or viewer is only assessed once. This assessment is therefore valid for both applications.
*Please note! Be aware that the processing time for this selection procedure may exceed three months.
Other grants for residencies in the Netherlands and other countries
Because only 1 or 2 residents can be selected for any given residency during each application round, it is inevitable that many will be disappointed. For this reason, we point out that it is also possible to apply for an Artist Project at a different residency location. The specific Artist Project residency applied for may not be one of those already being offered in the Mondriaan Fund application rounds.
